Fall Dance Weekend #22

September 19 - 21, 2008

A weekend of good friends, delightful dancing, merry music, and sweet song at Camp Cavell on the shores of beautiful Lake Huron near Lexington, Michigan

Featured Staff

Carol Ormand, a caller since the spring of 1990, hails from Madison, Wisconsin, but calls at dances, weekends, and festivals all over the United States (and once in Denmark!). Known for her warm, whimsical calling, and her ability to teach dances quickly and clearly, she has been a favorite with dancers in her former home state of Michigan for years. In her spare time, Carol has served two terms on the Board of Directors for the CDSS and has recently taken up the fiddle.

The Monks are an energetic Old-Time band from Bloomington, Indiana. Blending melodic sweetness and rhythmic grit, their repertory ranges from sad southern songs to rowdy dance tunes to Mexican-American waltzes and polkas. They continue to play nationally to rave reviews, backing up this country's finest dance callers!

Cathy Stephens, known for her crisp, clear teaching technique, will be back by popular demand, teaching couples and vintage dancing and hosting the enchanting Cathy's Lounge.

Fei Li comes to MDH all the way from Jincheng, a richly historical city in Northern China. Born into a family deeply involved in Chinese opera, Fei began the study of Chinese folk dance at an early age. As a member of a prestigious school folk dance team, she performed dance styles ranging from all over China, some dating back more than a thousand years to the Tang dynasty! Along the way, she also learned some ballet and Russian folk dance. When she isn't dancing, she studies molecular biology at the University of Michigan.

Location

Camp Cavell is on the shore of Lake Huron, 30 miles north of Port Huron. There are two wooden dance floors. Cabins for 8 to 10 people are available as women-only, men-only, and coed. They are heated and most include bathrooms. Tent and vehicle sites are also available.

Join us for a weekend of contras, squares, English country dance, Chinese folk dance, jamming, singing, and relaxing with friends!
